Welcome to ELA With Mrs. Bunch!
What will we learn this year in ELA?
This year we will be working closely with our HMH textbook, grammar workbook, vocabulary workbook, and i-Ready MyPath. The HMH textbook can be found online and due to this, it will be kept in the classroom unless there is a need to bring it home. We will read a variety of fiction and non-fiction including short stories, dramas, poetry, and essays. Writing assignments will include timed responses, journal writing, essays, and creative pieces. Vocabulary and grammar assignments will also be an important part of this class, as well as assigned MyPath lessons. Please understand that at-home studying is expected and completion of this will result in better success.
What are the required materials?
The most important supply needed for ELA this year is a composition notebook. We will use this almost everyday. Other supplies include: college-ruled notebook paper, pencils/pens, and a highlighter.
Is there a Google Classroom?
Yes. The code is 5rimufv2. Please join this ASAP using Classlink.
How does Mrs. Bunch communicate?
ParentSqaure or email is the best way to reach me. I use my school webpage, Parent Portal/Infinite Campus, ParentSquare, and Google Classroom to keep parents and students informed of tests, quizzes, and other relevant information. Please check Google Classroom and Parent Portal daily or weekly. I also send out a weekly newsletter (via ParentSquare) that includes important dates and information for your child to be successful.
How are assignments graded?

How does Mrs. Bunch address reassessments and late work?
Missing work will be a zero in the gradebook if more than a week late and/or it is not completed in Level Up. Again, if a student is absent, it is their responsibility to check the makeup work folder located in the classroom and make up the missing work. Students will be given the opportunity to reassess one time on assessments only. This will take place in class and the highest grade a student can receive on a reassessment is 90%. A student will be required to reassess if they score less then a 70% on an assessment, and the parent/guardian will be contacted. It is optional to reassess if students score more than a 70%.

Entering and Exiting the Classroom
You should line up outside the door in a single file line. Make sure to watch your volume while in the hallway. When entering the classroom, come in quietly, head to your assigned seat, and get out your supplies for the day. Start your warm-up and be respectful of other students in the classroom. Instructions for supplies and warm-ups can be found on the board.
Missing Work/Makeup Work
Missing work will be a zero in the gradebook if more than a week late and/or it is not completed in Level Up. Again, if you are absent, it is your responsibility to check the makeup work folder located in the classroom and make up the missing work. The makeup work folder is located in the back of the classroom on the bulletin board. If you are present in class, and decide to not complete your work, a consequence will be assigned.
Reassessment
You will be given the opportunity to reassess one time on assessments only. This will take place in class and the highest grade you can receive on a reassessment is 90%. You will be required to reassess if you score less than a 70% on an assessment, and your parent/guardian will be contacted. It is optional to reassess if you score more than a 70% and you must speak with Mrs. Bunch. Small group reteaching will be required before reassessing.
Supplies/Classroom Library
All supplies in the classroom must be treated with respect. It is your responsibility to be prepared for class with the appropriate supplies. Mrs. Bunch will supply basic supplies, but they must be returned on the bookshelf at the end of class. If you are repeatedly not prepared for class, a consequence will be assigned. Mrs. Bunch has a library full of amazing books for you to read. These books must be taken care of and returned when they are finished.
Behavior/PBIS
Each student is expected to be respectful, responsible, and ready. You will be rewarded with PBIS points for following these expectations. Mrs. Bunch has a store with rewards where you can use your points to purchase items. Please allow 24 hours for PBIS purchases to be delivered. If expectations are not met, consequences will be assigned. In class, you will be given a warning the first time. If your behavior does not improve, you will be asked to step into the hallway for a conversation. If your behavior still does not improve, a consequence will be assigned. Consequences include parent phone calls, detention, and even ISS/OSS.
Early Finishers
When you complete an assignment earlier than expected, you may work on the monthly early finisher board, read a book, or checkout a book from the learning commons. Failure to do this will result in a consequence.
Turning in Papers
When you complete an assignment, please turn it into the basket located on Mrs. Bunch’s desk.
Getting Out of Your Seat
If you need to leave your seat for any reason, please raise your hand and ask. This includes throwing away trash, getting a tissue, sharpening pencils or obtaining supplies, or getting hand sanitizer.
Getting Water
If you need to get a drink of water, please raise your hand and ask. During class, all water bottles will be kept on the bookshelf in the back of the room.
Bathroom
Bathroom breaks are given as an entire class multiple times throughout the day. Please utilize these breaks! If an emergency arises, wait until the appropriate time to request a bathroom pass.
